Top 5 Things to do at Walt Disneyworld Florida

For many families taking the kids to Walt Disneyworld in Florida is a dream come true. But with so many things to do it can be difficult to know where to start. The age of your children will be a consideration, as will be their specific interests, but there are some things that really are unmissable.
Try and enjoy attractions in as many different parts of the park as possible, as this will give you a varied experience of Disneyworld. Read on for our suggestions to make the most of this highlight from your holiday in the US with Cosmos.

Mickey's PhilharMagic

Everyone loves Mickey Mouse - he is the Disney character that we have all grown up with, so what could be better than seeing him on the big screen? Well, maybe one of the biggest screens in the world!
Mickey's PhilharMagic, situated in the Magic Kingdom, is a 3D film in which the lovable mouse, along with his mate Donald Duck, takes you on a ride through a number of Disney classics that will stimulate your senses. There's music, special effects and lots of fairytale magic.

Space Mountain

Also in the Magic Kingdom is Space Mountain - possibly the world's most famous ride. This roller coaster transports visitors 180 feet up to its peak, before plunging them into space. Taking place entirely in the dark, you will speed past galaxies and stars.
This version of the attraction in Orlando is the only one to feature two tracks that mirror each other's twists and turns. Not suitable for younger kids, this ride is definitely one that teens and dads tend to enjoy. (image blow by expressmonorail)

Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show

Also great for older children is this fast-paced stunt show at Disney's Hollywood Studios. As well as stunning the audience with huge explosions and death-defying jumps, it offers an insight into how action-packed movies are really made.
If big fireballs, motorcycles bursting through windows and stuntmen falling from five-storey buildings sound like your families idea of entertainment, this is the show for you. Just remember, don't try any of the stunts at home.

Kilimanjaro Safari

Animals are always a big hit with the kids and the chance to drive through an African-style savannah should not be missed. See giraffe grazing, zebra wander in front of your jeep and elephants taking shade under a baobab tree.
The premise of this attraction is that you are out with a group of rangers looking for poachers, which helps to bring the conservation message home. Look out for the lions and cheetahs that can also be spotted in the park, which you will find in Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Shark Reef

Not as cuddly as some of the other animals, but just as fascinating are the leopard and bonnethead sharks found at Typhoon Lagoon & Blizzard Beach. These species are completely harmless, allowing visitors to get up close and personal.
Don the snorkel gear and explore an underwater world, complete with coral reef and sunken shipwreck. Swimming among the fish will open up a colourful world, which the kids will be excited about for weeks after.

For anyone who doesn't want to get wet there is the opportunity to see Shark Reef from a sunken tanker through the portholes. Remember that kids under ten wishing to swim will need to be accompanied by an adult.

This is attributed to the dominant 19th century commercial buildings characterizing the place. You also get to visit the South Street Seaport Museum, the Pier 17’S dockside mall and Titanic Park. These include, The Wall Street Bull, Trinity Church, The New York stock Exchange, Ground Zero and The Federal Reserve.
This tour involves a walk through the street as the tour guides give you the stories behind the monuments found in it. The likes of John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie and J.P. Morgan made world history along this Wall, take a tour there and get to hear stories about them.

If your desire is to be part and parcel of the life in New York City for just a weekend, then look no further that The Ride. San Francisco Bucket List

San Francisco, Bay Bridge [courtesy of ThinkStock - iStockphoto]
San Francisco is one of those cities you just have to visit in your lifetime. The question is, what are the absolute must-sees and dos while you're there? We've wracked our brains, sifted through the most must-see attractions and, after much deliberation, have come up with the ultimate San Francisco bucket list.
Below, you can find out exactly what sights and activities you really shouldn't miss. So, when you're searching for a hotel in San Francisco, remember to check how far your accommodation is from the attractions that most interest you.
Explore: Golden Gate Park
Golden Gate Park is one of the largest man-made parks in the world, as well as easily ranking among
San Francisco, Golden Gate Park [courtesy of ThinkStock - iStockphoto]
the most exciting. It's a visually stunning place for starters, while it's filled with lots of interesting attractions too. But let's not get ahead of ourselves; we'll take a look at the former first.
Golden Gate Park is home to a wealth of beautiful gardens. If you want to feel like you've been transported to a green paradise, make sure you check out the Japanese Tea Garden. You do need to pay to explore it, but it is well worth it. That said, if you get here bright and early on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday (as in before 10:00 local time), you'll be let in for free. San Francisco Botanical Garden and Strawberry Hill are two other notable beauty spots.
Golden Gate Park is also home to the California Academy of Sciences. If you have time, you should definitely take a look in here, especially as it's one of the largest natural history museums in the world.

Eat: Mission District
Eating some of the best local food is an absolute must no matter where you go, but in San Francisco you'll be in for a real treat. Probably la creme de la creme for foodies is the Mission District, which is where you'll find some of the city's top restaurants across all budgets.
Now, while you can get a wide range of cuisines here, it's the burritos that possibly stand out most. In fact, you've probably already heard that the Mission District is famous for this delicious dish - and we think this reputation is very well deserved. The best places to go to try them include El Toro Taqueria (Valencia Street) and Papalote (24th Street).
Cross: Golden Gate Bridge
When you hear the name Golden Gate Bridge, you immediately think of San Francisco - and the

reverse is also true. As the city's ultimate icon, it is an absolute must-visit. Instead of just gazing at from one of the local viewing points, take the time to walk or cycle across it.
Don't worry, you won't have to battle with the traffic, as there's a decent pedestrian walkway. Actually crossing the bridge is an unbeatable means of appreciating its colossal size (it's 1.7 miles long) and incredible architecture. Plus, if you have time you can also take a look around the Marin headlands when you reach the other side. Here, you'll find Kirby Cove, which is a great place to see the bridge you've just crossed in all its glory.
Discover: Alcatraz
San Francisco, Alcatraz [courtesy of ThinkStock - Stockbyte]
Finally, you can't miss Alcatraz, which is another of the city's most famous attractions. This former
penitentiary bid farewell to its last inmate in 1963 and these days welcomes tourists in their droves. Of course, as it ushers in so many visitors each day, it's well worth taking any opportunity to see it at less crowded times, and one of the best ways to do that is by simply opting for a night tour.
On night tours, visitor numbers are limited (though will still reach the hundreds) and you get treated to a slightly different itinerary of activities to during the day. What's more, coming here at night when the corridors are quieter really enhances the effect of all the old - and often chilling - stories you'll hear.

The Story Of The Mayan Culture In Mexico And Guatemala

Holiday Fans travel the World RTW -family activities Budget Travel culture in Mexico
Have you heard of the Mayan Culture in Mexico and Guatemala? This Mesoamerican civilization has been noted to develop a written language, an intricate art and architecture in the pre-Columbian Americas. Mayan influences are identified in other Central American neighboring countries such as Honduras, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, and as far as Mexico. This is one great historic civilization in Central America that you don't want to miss.

Mayan People Created Books

If you will get the chance to see their books, it's full of pictures, dots, and lines instead of words. These drawings tell a story and the dots and lines symbolized numbers. Although they had books, not all of them were trained or literate enough to understand those books. Only the priest class had the authority to read and write those books. The Mayans had a lot of books but some priests burned them when the Spanish arrived and only the four original books which they called the "codices" survived.

The Famous Mayan Calendar

Holiday Fans travel the World RTW -family activities Budget Travel Famous Mayan Calendar
Mayan Calendar
The Mayan Calendar is actually three calendars in one. The First one is called the Tzolkin that has 260 days more or less based on the nine months birth period. The second is called the Haab which happens to have 365 days based on the solar year. And the third is called the Calendar Round which comprises both the Tzolkin and the Haab together that refers to a 52 years solar period. The solar calendar of the Mayan Civilization is very accurate, even more accurate than what we use today. In some parts of Central America, people are still using these calendars. And for that reason some believed that the end of the world will be on 2012, because the Mayan Calendar only has until December of 2012 and will then reset back to zero after that.

Mayan Temples and Cities in Guatemala

Tikal in Guatemala was one of the major and predominant cities of the Mayan Civilization. Mayans inhabited Tikal for centuries reaching its highest position of influence in the whole Mayan Culture between 200AD to 900AD. Today, Tikal National Park in Guatemala covers around 222 square miles of the ruins and thick Guatemalan rainforest that the Mayans left. The portions that were excavated in 2008 revealed five large pyramids and temples. And these temples are about 138 to 213 feet in height. You can almost feel their power and superiority at that time

Mayan Ruined Cities in Mexico

There are three areas in Mexico that were inhabited by the Mayans. The largest ruin of them all is the one in Chichen Itza and it's also one of the most visited places by the travelers today. Most the Mayan architecture in this place was an arrangement of Mayan and Toltec styles because of the influence of the Iztaes in the tenth century. Another area in Mexico inhabited by the Mayans is the Talum which is believed to be the latest relic of the Mayan Civilization. It is also the most well preserved among the Mayan cities and it has a very astounding view of the Caribbean Sea. The Palenque is considered to be the medium-sized Mayan site as it's not really a big area for a Mayan city. However, Palenque contained the best example of the Mayan Culture's architecture, sculptures, and carvings.

The End of Mayan Great Civilization

Mayan culture and cities stood for thousands of years until the Spanish came to conquer the whole land of Central America. It was assumed that the Spanish power and strength are more than the Mayan's control and authority that many were killed and many got ill. Mayan medicine couldn't withstand foreign power and fight illnesses that the Mayan Civilization eventually lost all control and mysteriously disappeared and that concluded their culture's downfall.

The Mayan culture was not really defined as one big ethnically similar people. They considered themselves as one group or community but with differences in ancestry, language, and geography. These differences made them a strong community but it was also considered their downfall because of the disunity among them.

The fishing industry in Alaska is responsible for most of the jobs in the region. It is so vast that the industry acts as one of the driving forces in the regional economy. On top of that, the salmon fishing industry of Alaska is the largest in the world as per all the governing bodies of fisheries.

Alaska is a region that supports its fishermen and fishing businessmen tremendously. In this largest commercial fishing economy in the world, people in the fishing industry are very well paid. The total industry of fishing and related fields sum up to a staggering $4.6 billion, as the data of 2009 suggests. Considering individual places within Alaska, Bristol Bay should be named. After salmon, the most valuable fishing sub industry lies within the Shellfish. Bering Sea contributes a lot on this regard. In these regions, the fisheries are managed by the state department of Alaska and it incorporates lots of jobs in the process. The state also manages the harvesting of ground fish and herring. The state is providing some level on attention on these two seafood products because they bring in variety in the total harvest that is made by Alaska. Some of the harvest such as sable fish is considered to be very valuable once finished with processing.

Alaska doesn't only have a lot of fish to catch each year; it creates a lot of job opportunities through the meticulous management of the state authority as well as the growth of the businesses working in the fishing industry. As a result the fishing industry in Alaska is a very lucrative place for the people who are looking for fishing jobs. For the locals, they have the habit of fishing within their blood since it has been passed down from generations as a dear culture from ancient times.
