Relevance of the Name

The name of the city Siem Reap means "Siamese Defeated." Siamese here is referred to the people of present day Thailand. The story of this name takes reference from the conflict between the Khmer and Siamese people, which is centuries old. According to the traditional story of the region, this name was given by King Chan, when he defeated the Thais in this region in a major war. After the battle the Thai Prince Ong was dead and close to 10,000 Thai troops was captured. The Thais were completely destroyed in this battle and therefore, the name "Siamese Defeated."

History of the Conflict

The history tells that one of the Thai king, named King Chairacha was poised by concubine, to capture the throne with her lover. Later, both the concubine and her lover were killed by the nobles as they hated both of them. After their death, nobles appointed Prince Thainracha as the king and gave him the title King Maha Chakkraphat. King Chakkraphat demanded a white elephant from King Ang Chan and he refused to give anything to Thai King. Therefore, Prince Ong was sent to defeat King Ang and capture his kingdom. However, King Ang Chan counter-attacked Prince Ong and killed him in the battle, eventually capturing 10,000 Thai soldiers as prisoners. After the glorious victory, King Ang Chan named the battle area "Siem Reap" meaning "Siamese Defeated." Finally the Angkor Kingdom was defeated by the Thais in the fifteenth century and since then this city was abandoned.

The History of Cotton Candy- Yummy!

Holiday Fans travel the World RTW -family activities Cotton Candy
Cotton candies were first found in Italy way back in the 1400s. The first machine for preparing cotton candy was however launched in the 1800s. Before the machine was introduced, cotton candies were made in a pan by melting sugar.

Until the 1800s, the chefs of Europe prepared delicious deserts made with sugar. Unlike the sugar of current times which is cottony spun, in those days, the strands of sugar was quite thick and was similar to blown glass. The candy came in various shapes and were given the look of bird's nests, eggs, golden webs, castles etc.

Holiday Fans travel the World RTW -family activities Cotton Candy
Candy
In order to make the candies such fanciful, the chefs had to undertake a tedious procedure. Loaf sugar made out of beet or cane was utilized, as until World War I granulated sugar was not discovered. Water, Sugar and other ingredients were put into large pots and boiled until the correct temperature was reached with the appropriate level of consistency. Cooks generally preferred to use the best quality of cane sugar to avoid any kind of failures, and they also used copper bowls for achieving optimum results. When the melted mixture was successfully accomplished, in no time the chef had to pull it out with a whisk or fork and fling it in the air. This would lead to fast solidification and cooling of the concoction. The chefs had to be extremely cautious to avoid any kind of burns and some even oiled their skins so that any accident would not turn out to be a fatal one.

In 1899, two men from Tennessee named John C. Wharton and William Morrisson invented the electric cotton candy machine for the first time. This machine melted sugar, forced it to spin using centrifugal force and finally made it pass through small outlets before letting it go.

Thomas Patton was yet another individual who found interest in researching with caramelized sugar. He utilized a fork to make threads out of sugar. Thus, he came up with a machine which had a gas-fired rotating plate in it which gave the sugar a threaded texture by spinning it. These threads were gathered together to give the look of a big cotton ball of candy, popularly known as cotton candy today.

In 1949, Gold Medal Products discovered the cotton candy machine that is used in today's date. The base of this machine was loaded with spring, which made the preparation of cotton candy much simpler and convenient.

In 1950, cotton candies became a big hit and a part of fair habits in many nations. In New York, Four Seasons Hotel added cotton candy to their menu list for exclusive occasions. In Manhattan, this sweet sticky desert was given in a martini glass and came in vibrant colors and attractive appearance.

With passing name, cotton candies were addressed and served with different names in different places. New Orleans stuck to the name, cotton candy. In Australian culture, it became well known as fairy floss. Children in Great Britain love it as candy floss whereas in Greece and India, it became famous as "old lady's hair"!

Types of English Teaching in China - Which One is for You?

China is renowned as the second country in the world to have the largest economy.  Needless to say the amount of products or merchandise that are produced in China are being exported worldwide giving a diversified communication across the world. Thus talking about China being globally competent to other countries, there is a need to know the English language, the international language, in order to interact with other countries doing business within and across the country.

China today requires a large number of English teachers and there are many opportunities to teach in China is you know where to look. The English classes and education could, and does help the Chinese in both aspect of education and economy.  To improve these two aspects, there are four types of teachers that are needed all across China. Which one would you prefer?

Language Schools in China

Foreign language schools are available in different parts of China. They have classes for languages such as French, Indian, Arabic, English, Spanish, German, you name it, they have it. Of course the rates may differ according to what school it is and what language will be learned or taught. usually employers would hire a native speaker of the particular language to be more familiar with words. A translator maybe present but not in all cases so the use of a translator machine or other equipments like a book or a translator gadget would be very helpful both for the teacher and the student. Conversational and English comprehension could be the focus of the lessons.

Public Schools in China

The demand of the global market to speak English as its mother tongue intimidates the Chinese people since they speak the language poorly that's why the government of China implemented to teach English subject to public school. Public schools in China have a population of around 60-85 students per classroom so it could be quite difficult to have a one on one conversation with all students. It more likely that the teacher would ask one question and one student will answer while the others are merely listening. The English subject is just like a non-academic subject or an exercise for it is usually not graded. The aim of including this in public school is just to familiarize students with the English language that is commonly used.

Private Schools in China

It is highly imperative to that the English language is taught in Private schools as it is in public school however their is a greater emphasis to teaching English compared to public schools. The English subject in private schools are considered as an academic subject wherein it is graded and there are examinations take by students. Most students who study in private schools continue learning English until they reach college level.

Business English in China

Communication if properly used and understood would bring money in corporations or businesses. This means that English language is badly needed in the workplace especially if the transactions are being brought out of the country or if clients cannot speak in Chinese. You may not be teaching English however you may be checking or correcting grammatical errors of speeches or presentations of the company to clients or customers. The correct usage of idiomatic expressions which are often used in the work place must be taught as well.

Finally, I strongly recommend you to read a prevevious post about 5 Tips How Not To Offend Chinese.
If you have any experience living in China or teaching English, please share with you.

Therefore the stones would not perfectly and no mortar was needed to bind them. As a result many of the city structures were highly resistant to events such as earthquakes. This method of building has also led researchers to speculate about extraterrestrial help given to the Incas since there was no modern technology back then. In one way or another they built a city whose ruins still stand today.

6) It is said that the people of the city were self-sustaining. Since the city was built high in the mountains it would be difficult for travelers to get to it. Farming terraces in the city area have also been known to add more speculation to this idea.

The Best Blog Ever travel the World RTW -family activities Budget Travel of Australian culture
The Kangaroo is an animal which is unique and is found exclusively in Australia, though some of the smaller species can also be found in New Guinea. Kangaroos belong to the Marsupial family meaning large foot. They have large and powerful hind legs, large feet ideal for leaping and a long tail for balance. They are the only land creature which moves by hopping instead of walking or running like the other species. The female kangaroo gives birth to premature offspring's and carry them in a pouch, located on the stomach regions of the female kangaroo. The Kangaroo is a wild free beast which travels great distances for food and water. It has no fear of predators.

The Kangaroo is the national animal of Australia and its unofficial symbol. It appears on the Australian Coat of arms and in some of the currency notes in Australia. It has come to symbolize Australia to such an extent that it regularly appears in following organizations and institutions.

In order to ensure that it is instantly recognized as Australia around the world, tourism Australia has incorporated it in its logo.

The Australian Royal Air force uses the symbol of a bounding red kangaroo.

Warships of the Australian Royal Navy also use the kangaroo on their funnel.

The kangaroo is a cultural icon of Australia and symbolize the free spirit and adventure so endemic to the Australian way of life. Though Australia is also a country of immigrants (mostly from Britain), it has largely been influenced by Western Europe and America. Dominance of English, a democratic system drawn from Westminster and American federal system of governance, Christianity as the predominant religion, popularity of cricket and rugby speaks of Anglo-Celtic tradition. Significantly in the over 2 centuries of British settlement in Australia, Australian culture has acquired a distinctive flavor which is significantly different from either the British or American cultures.

The most obvious symbols of Australian cultural symbols are Sydney Opera House & the National Gallery of Victoria. But the country has carved a unique niche in the fields of literature, theater architecture, visual arts, cinema and music. Some of the cultural icons of this country of nascent origin, which has made a telling mark the world over are Rupert Murdoch-the media magnet, Mel Gibson-Hollywood actor & director, Nicole Kidman-Oscar winning actor, AC DC-the hard rock group, Patrick White-the Nobel prize winner for literature and so on.

The Aussie way of life symbolizes a rich tradition of adventure and free enterprise. This enterprising nature of the countrymen is visible from the opulent and squeakily clean cities, healthy GDP, home to global MNCs, a thriving education sector (the preferred destination for students worldwide after the United States). That this country has achieved so much in such a short time, speaks volumes of the energy and spirit of the Aussies, aptly symbolized by the hopping Kangaroo hopping graciously with vigor and vitality.

French Kiss- The History Of The Kiss And Why It Is Called "French Kiss"

Holiday Fans travel the World RTW -family activities Budget Travel French
Kissing is most physically romantic thing two people can have. It creates an emotional fire and sweetens romance. Kissing is the interlocking of lips or using your tongue while touching someone else's skin. Many people can't imagine the idea of kissing without using their tongue. The thing one that should be noted is, try kissing someone a number of times before deciding how you prefer kissing your partner. Get used to the way the person kisses, before you suggest or work on new way of kissing. The first kiss should be done in an isolated area to prevent any unnecessary nervousness and embarrassment. The best kind of kiss is the one that uses many variations: start with a small kiss, work into a deep kiss, probably sucking your partner's lips, and then try the other 2 types. Don't always leave the kissing to the lips, try kissing their cheeks, chin or eyelids. This can be very romantic and seductive. A good thing to note is that every person kisses differently and prefers different ways of kissing. Many people love and always imagine about the French kiss.

French Kiss

A French kiss is a deep type of kiss that involves the participant's tongue touching their partner's lips or tongue, as they enter their mouths. It is a slow and passionate way of kissing and is considered to be romantic, intimate, erotic and sexual. The touch brings sensitivity and always results to pleasure.

History of the French Kiss

The big questions that pops up in most lovers is where French kissing came from, how it was started and who started it? Most people think that it originated from France but there is no staunch evidence that that is where it bears its origin. The term was a disrespectful one, which started at the time when the British and French were not in good terms. There was a criticism that French's shows were thought to be immoral, while the British were somewhat clean and of moral standards. The British kept their affection shows behind doors. Anything that was described as "French" was usually thought as negative, for example, "Pardon French", which was used after a morally offensive speech. Another thought that was also derogatory, pointed that the French loved to stick their tongues in places they were least wanted. This means that they liked to interfere with other people's conversations.

Plautus, The Latin poet (around 200 BC), described a certain type of 'French Kissing'-the idea of turning someone into a serpent and giving them two tongues. And in '1001 Nights', The Scheherazade talks of a woman pressing her lips hard against her lover's, and she catches him unaware, forcing his lips apart and opening his mouth wide open. In the 19th century, there is also information about the 'French Kiss' being talked of. However, it was seen in modern times printed in 'Private Lindner's Letters', which was uncensored and published 1918. Nowadays, the term "French Kiss" is popularly known to have been brought back into the English world by those soldiers returning after the 1st world war in Europe. They described their good adventures, and showed their girlfriends and wives what they learnt abroad.

It is so called the "French Kiss" because the French were highly reputed for more passionate and adventurous sex practices.
